What is a Sustainable Community?

As the Gorge continues to grow, and the demand for resources increases, how can its communities plan for growth in a way that meets today’s needs without sacrificing the needs of future generations?

Transition Network is an international organization, working to help communities address the challenges related to climate change by encouraging discussions around local food systems, transportation solutions, human health, strong economies and more. Transition Initiatives, or measures communities can take to move toward an economy less dependent on fossil fuels, is the topic of our next Gorge Green Drinks networking event, Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The Hood River Sustainability Committee and the Columbia Gorge Earth Center welcome David Johnson to Hood River to talk about his experience bringing Transition Initiatives to Portland and offer suggestions for how Gorge residents can enact similar measures here.

The Transition Network, http://transitiontowns.org

Date: Tues., Feb. 9, 6 pm presentation, followed by discussion and networking

Location: Springhouse Cellar, 13 Railroad Ave (1st and Cascade) Enter at Mt Hood Railroad
